Insurance and Liability.
The conference package/registration fees do not include personal, travel or health insurance. Therefore, we strongly recommend that delegates have arranged their own insurances. If the conference needs to be relocated due to weather conditions, an alternative conference venue, accommodation and meals will be available in Gladstone. However, any other matters (including any delegate’s last minute cancellation) will not be reimbursed (see cancellation policy below).
As a condition of registration, delegates undertake conference and social activities at their own risk, and release the ThymOz conference organisers and Aldesta/Heron Island Resort from all liability. For these reasons and continuing pandemic and travel disruptions, we strongly recommend that delegates and their guests arrange their own travel insurance.
Heron Island Clinic.
Heron Island Clinic is a sole Registered Nurse managed clinic. It is run by one Registered Nurse who works in the clinic 7 days/week from 8am-4pm and is on call 24/7.
Although we are limited as we are so remote, we do have a range of medications from antibiotics, basic analgesia to resuscitative medications where required. These are all prescribed by our off-island GP who prescribes any urgent medications or with the help of Retrieval Services Queensland or The Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Our Registered Nurses come with a lot of Emergency/critical care experience and are trained to deal with Medical Emergencies. We do not, however, have X-rays or investigative equipment to perform X rays or blood tests for example.
Allergies
There are usually gluten free and vegetarian options on the menu. It is still advisable to let the island know of any allergies and dietary requirements well in advance so the chefs can better tailor the menu for you.
Dietary requirements can be accommodated with at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to arrival.
Note: I have already informed the Resort about the dietary restrictions and allergies for those who have emailed me. Ann
